Ormai la bomba è stata lanciata ed in giro troviamo un sacco di articoli che si rifanno all’intervista di Matt e Brooks a Talk is Jericho, in cui è stato annunciato il nome del nuovo membro della band che succederà ad Arin.
Finalmente Metalhammer ci ha proposto qualcosa di diverso: hanno raggiunto infatti Brooks e fatto due parole sul come ha ottenuto il lavoro e come ha reagito alla cosa.

A quick chat with the new Avenged Sevenfold sticksman
Less than a week after officially joining the band new Avenged Sevenfold Brooks Wackerman has spoken to Hammer about the circumstances that led to his joining the band.
“Last year after they finished the Mayhem tour I heard they were looking for a new drummer,” he tells us, “and, by all accounts my name was thrown into the hat to be in the band. One day I received a call from Matt [Shadows, A7X frontman] asking me if I wanted to go out to dinner, and so we met up and talked about music and the future and what we both wanted to do in our careers. And we just hit it off. They’ve been a band that I’ve admired throughout my career, and so to get the chance to work with them up close and personal is really a tremendous honour for me.”
And having scored the drum stool of one of the biggest bands in the world of metal, a job that Brooks himself describes as “exactly the sort of challenge that I’ve always wanted in my career”, you’d be forgiven for thinking that his first act upon being an official member of Avenged Sevenfold would be to go out and celebrate in as wild and crazy a way as possible. Not so.
“The first thing I did,” he sighs. “was go and tell my wife, and she gave me a kiss and we hugged. It was quite a poignant moment. And she said ‘Go get ‘em tiger!’ ha ha. Then I called my father and told him, who’s a music educator but wasn’t familiar with the band. So I showed him and few of the videos and he’s just my biggest supporter. I think just telling my family of what I was about to do was an exciting element.”
The first of many no doubt, welcome to the family Brooks.

Meno di una settimana dall’entrata in via ufficiale di Brooks Wackerman nella band e Metal Hammer è riuscito a parlare con lui delle circostanze che lo hanno portato ad unirsi alla band.
“L’anno scorso dopo che hanno finito il Mayhem festival, ho sentito in giro che cercavano un nuovo batterista” ci dice “e, fra tutti i candidati possibili anche il mio nome era fra quelli che interessavano alla band. Un giorno ho ricevuto una chiamata da Matt e mi è stato chiesto di andare a cena con lui, così ci siamo incontrati e abbiam parlato di musica, del futuro e di quello che entrambi volevamo fare nelle nostre carriere. E ci siamo capiti subito. Sono una delle band che ho sempre ammirato durante la mia carriera e adesso aver la possibilità di lavorare con loro in maniera stretta e personale, è davvero un enormissimo onore per me”.
E dopo raggiunto lo sgabello della batteria di una delle più grandi band del mondo metal, un lavoro che Brooks descrive come “esattamente il tipo di sfida che ho sempre voluto nella mia carriera”, sarete perdonati se avrete pensato che abbia festeggiato l’essere diventato un membro ufficiale degli A7X in modo selvaggio e folle. No, non è così.
“La prima cosa che ho fatto” -confessa- “è stata di andare da mia moglie che mi ha baciato ed abbracciato. E’ stato un momemto commovente. E mi ha detto “valli a prendere, tigre” -ride-. Poi ho chiamato mio padre e gliel’ho detto, è un insegnante di musica ma non era familiare con questa band. Quindi gli ho fatto vedere un po’ dei loro video e lui è il mio più grande supporter. Ho solo pensato di dire alla mia famiglia quello che stavo per andare a fare, qualcosa di eccitante.”
Il primo di tanti: benvenuto in famiglia Brooks.
